At Dentistry@Jordanhill we are committed to providing a safe and respectful environment for our patients and our team. Our dentists, nurses, receptionists and all our staff have the right to carry out their work without fear of abuse, threats or violence.

We follow the NHS Scotland zero-tolerance approach. This means we will not accept any behaviour towards our staff or other patients that is violent, abusive or threatening. Examples of unacceptable behaviour include:

• physical violence or threats of violence
• verbal abuse, shouting or swearing, whether in person or over the telephone
• racist, sexist, homophobic or other discriminatory remarks
• sexual harassment or inappropriate behaviour
• threatening or intimidating language or gestures
• abusive or offensive messages by phone, email, letter or social media
• causing damage to, or theft of, practice property
• attending the practice under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs

We take any breach of this policy extremely seriously. Any patient who is violent, or who threatens violence, towards our staff or others will be removed from our patient list immediately and reported to Police Scotland — no warning will be given. For other unacceptable behaviour, a single formal warning may be issued, and any further incident will result in removal from our patient list (for NHS patients, in line with NHS Board procedures) and refusal of further treatment. All incidents are recorded.

Our reception and clinical staff may end any telephone call, or ask any person to leave the practice, where they are subjected to abusive, threatening or offensive behaviour.

We ask all patients to treat our staff with the same courtesy and respect that they can expect to receive from us. Thank you for helping us keep Dentistry@Jordanhill a safe and welcoming place for everyone.
