What it changes

No two makeovers are the same

A smile makeover is not one treatment but a plan: the combination of treatments that gets your teeth from where they are to the smile you want. Most makeovers combine whitening with bonding or veneers. Which treatments, and how many teeth, is what the consultation decides.

Not sure which of these describes your teeth? That is what the £48 consultation is for: your dentist will look at your teeth and tell you which treatments would get you the result you want, and which you do not need.

Before and after

Every photograph here is our own patient, treated in this practice, not a stock image. Different problems, different plans.

Choosing the right route

Three common starting points

Most makeovers fall into one of three patterns. The consultation tells you which is yours, and whether you need the whole plan or just one part of it.

Colour and small edges

Teeth that are basically straight but dull, chipped or slightly uneven. Whitening first, then composite bonding to rebuild edges and close small gaps, matched to the new shade. Usually the quickest and most affordable makeover.

About composite bonding →
Worn, short or heavily discoloured

Teeth that have lost length to years of wear, or are too dark for whitening to help. Porcelain veneers change colour and shape together and are more durable than bonding; where more of the tooth has gone, onlays or crowns restore it.

About porcelain veneers →
Crooked, crowded or gappy

When the position of the teeth is the problem, moving them is the honest answer. Clear aligners straighten the teeth or close the gap first; whitening and a little bonding often complete the result without veneers at all.

About Invisalign →

Unsure which is you? Book the consultation. You will get a clear answer on what your teeth need, including when the honest answer is less treatment than you expected.

How a smile makeover works

Every smile is unique, so your plan is designed around your goals, lifestyle and long-term oral health. Here is what happens, step by step.

Radhika showing a patient her finished smile in a hand mirror at Dentistry @ Jordanhill
Radhika and a patient seeing her new smile for the first time.
  1. ConsultationWe assess your teeth, bite and overall smile, and talk through the improvements you would like to achieve. Bring photographs of smiles you like, or of your own smile from years ago, if you have them.
  2. Your options, explainedWe explain the treatment options that suit your teeth, such as bonding, whitening, veneers or clear aligners, and what each would and would not change. You leave with a personalised treatment plan and the full cost.
  3. DesignThe finished result is designed before any treatment begins. Where veneers are part of the plan, you try the new shape in your own mouth as a trial smile, and shape it with us until you are happy with it.
  4. Treatment, in the right orderTreatments happen in sequence: aligners before anything is reshaped, whitening before anything is colour-matched, and bonding or veneers to finish. Each stage is reviewed with you before the next.
  5. Review and aftercareWe check the result with you once everything is complete, adjust anything that catches, and set out how to look after your new smile, including routine hygiene visits and a night guard if you grind.

Nothing is booked in on the day of the consultation unless you want it to be. Some people take the plan away and come back months later; the plan is still yours.

Nervous about the dentist? The consultation is a conversation and a look at your teeth, nothing more. You set the pace through every stage and can stop at any point by raising a hand.

What it costs

What a smile makeover costs

There is no single price, because a makeover is built from a combination of treatments and no two are the same. What follows is what each part costs, so you can gauge the scale before you come in.

Finance is available on larger treatment plans.

Spread the cost of your treatment →
  • Smile makeover consultation£48
  • Composite bonding, per tooth£220–£452
  • Teeth whitening£400–£500
  • Veneers, per tooth£420–£760
  • Invisalign£1,475–£3,995

The £48 consultation is taken off the cost of your treatment if you go ahead. It is not refunded if you decide not to proceed, or if treatment turns out not to be suitable for you.

What moves the price

How many teeth are treated, and which treatments they need. Most people treat only the teeth that show when they smile. A whitening-and-bonding makeover on four front teeth sits at one end of the scale; aligners followed by veneers across the upper smile sits at the other.

You will know the full cost after your consultation, before any treatment begins.

Smile makeover FAQs

Your questions, answered

Anything we have not covered, ask at your consultation or call the practice on 0141 334 2550.

A single plan that combines two or more cosmetic treatments to change the look of your smile as a whole, rather than one tooth at a time. Most makeovers combine whitening with bonding or veneers; some add clear aligners, crowns or a bridge. The plan is designed with you before any treatment begins.

It depends on which treatments your teeth need and how many teeth are treated. At Dentistry @ Jordanhill the parts cost: composite bonding £220–£452 per tooth, teeth whitening £400–£500, veneers £420–£760 per tooth and Invisalign £1,475–£3,995, after a £48 consultation. You get the full cost of your own plan confirmed before anything starts.

It depends on the plan. Whitening followed by bonding is usually complete within a few visits. Veneers need a planning stage, a trial smile and a fitting visit. Clear aligners move teeth over months before any finishing treatment. Your dentist sets out the timeline for your own plan at the consultation.

No. Most people arrive knowing what they do not like about their smile, not which treatment fixes it. That is the point of the consultation: you describe the result you want, and your dentist tells you which combination of treatments gets you there, and which you do not need.

We assess your teeth, bite and overall smile, discuss the improvements you would like to achieve, explain the suitable treatment options such as bonding, whitening or clear aligners, and create a personalised treatment plan. You leave with the plan and the full cost. Nothing is booked in on the day unless you want it to be. The £48 consultation is taken off the cost of your treatment if you go ahead. It is not refunded if you decide not to proceed, or if treatment turns out not to be suitable for you.

Where veneers are part of the plan, yes: a trial smile is placed over your own teeth, without any preparation, so you can see the new shape and length in your mouth and ask for changes before anything is made. For bonding, the resin is shaped on the tooth in front of you and adjusted until you are happy. You can also see similar cases to your own at the consultation.

That is the aim of designing it first. Shade, shape and length are chosen to suit your face and the teeth around them, rather than a one-size-fits-all white. The before and after photographs on this page are our own patients, and your dentist can show you more at the consultation.

Whitening and bonding usually need no anaesthetic at all. Veneer preparation and fitting are done under local anaesthetic, and some sensitivity in the days afterwards is normal and usually settles quickly. Aligners can feel tight for a day or two after each change. Your dentist talks you through what to expect at each stage.

No. A makeover can be phased: whitening and bonding first, veneers or aligners later, or the teeth that show most first and the rest afterwards. The plan sets out the order that makes sense for your teeth, and you choose the pace. Spreading the cost is also an option on larger plans.

About finance →

Yes. A gap left by a lost tooth can be filled with a fixed bridge or a dental implant as part of the same plan, with the replacement tooth matched to the shade and shape of the smile you are creating. Implants are planned and placed here by Radhika, who holds an MSc in Implantology.

About dental implants →

Each part of a makeover has its own lifespan. Composite bonding typically lasts 3–7 years depending on care; Emax porcelain veneers can last 10 to 15 years or longer; whitening can be topped up at home with your trays; and straightened teeth are held in place by the retainers you wear afterwards. Good hygiene and regular check-ups make the biggest difference to all of them.

Before. Bonding and veneers are matched to the shade of the teeth around them and do not lighten afterwards, so if you want a brighter smile overall, whitening comes first and the new work is matched to the whitened shade. The plan puts the treatments in the right order for you.

About teeth whitening →

Yes, and many of our makeover patients started out nervous. The consultation is a conversation and a look at your teeth, with no treatment. After that you set the pace, treatment by treatment, and can stop at any point by raising a hand. A friend or family member is welcome to sit with you.
