Nervous patients
Many of our patients feel anxious before their first visit. We understand, and we’re here to help you feel safe, in control, and genuinely at ease from the moment you arrive.

Our approach
Dental anxiety is very common. Whether it’s a past experience that left you feeling unsettled, uncertainty about what to expect, or simply a general sense of unease, we hear this from patients every week, and we take it seriously.
At Dentistry @ Jordanhill, we never rush. We’ll take as much time as you need to talk through your worries before anything else happens. You set the pace, always.
Principal dentist Radhika Baireddy has a special interest in helping nervous patients feel more confident about their dental care.
How we help
Knowing what to expect takes some of the worry out of it. Here is how a first visit usually goes.
Hear from a nervous patient
A real patient sharing his experience after completing treatment with us.
Your first appointment can simply be a chat. No treatment, no pressure, just a chance to meet the team and see the practice.

Hilary has been fantastic with me, she knows that I have had bad experiences with my last dentist. She has taken her time to firstly listen to me then advise me what she is doing and why and it has been amazing
I'm always anxious before a visit, but no idea why as I have total faith in the dentist! Reassurance was given throughout my consultation.
Very professional, and so nice, put me at ease as I was very nervous, the receptionist was also lovely, nothing was any bother. What a great practice.

Your first visit
When you’re ready, we’d love to welcome you. Many patients tell us that taking that first step was the hardest part, and that everything felt much easier after that.
Nervous patient FAQs
Anything we have not covered, call the practice on 0141 334 2550. Telling us you are nervous is the best first step.
Yes. Your first appointment can simply be a chat: no treatment, no pressure, just a chance to meet the team, see the practice and talk through your worries. Nothing else happens until you are ready.
Just tell us when you book, online or on the phone, or mention it to the reception team when you arrive. We hear this from patients every week and we take it seriously, so there is no need to feel awkward about it.
No. Many of the patients we see have stayed away for a long time, often because of a past experience. We are interested in where you are now and what would help, not in how long it has been. We never rush, and we take as much time as you need to talk through your worries before anything else happens.
Yes. A friend or family member is always welcome to sit with you during your appointment.
Just raise your hand and we’ll stop immediately, no questions asked. You can take a break for as long as you need, and you decide when to carry on.
Yes. We’ll always explain what we’re about to do before we do it, and we’ll tell you exactly what’s happening at every step, so nothing comes as a surprise. If you would rather not hear the detail, tell us that too.
Yes. Bring your headphones. Listening to something familiar can make a big difference, and you can still raise your hand at any point to ask us to stop.
A new patient examination is £65 and includes two X-rays. Your dentist looks at your teeth, gums and the soft tissues of your mouth, and you leave knowing what, if anything, needs doing. A full treatment plan including exact costs is provided after your examination, and nothing is started on the day unless you want it to be.
What happens at a new patient exam →Principal dentist Radhika Baireddy has a special interest in helping nervous patients feel more confident about their dental care, and all of our dentists and hygienists are used to looking after anxious patients. If you would prefer to see a particular clinician, ask when you book.
Meet the team →No. Taking things at your pace is simply how we work, not an extra, and your dentist will discuss costs with you clearly before any treatment begins.
See the fee guide →Not at all. Whatever the state of your teeth, you will not be the first person we have seen in that position, and the sooner we look, the more options there usually are. Many patients who came to us deeply anxious are now regular visitors who no longer worry about their appointments.
Appointments can be booked online, or call the practice on 0141 334 2550 and the reception team will help. If you would rather start with a chat, say so when you book.
