What it fixes
Invisalign moves your teeth with a series of clear, removable aligners rather than fixed brackets and wires. Each set is made for your teeth and moves them a little further than the last, so the change is gradual and the aligners are hard to see while you wear them.

Choosing the right treatment
Three different routes to a straighter-looking smile, and they do different jobs. The right one depends on how far your teeth need to move and what you want at the end.
A series of clear, removable aligners that move the teeth themselves. Discreet, taken out to eat and clean, and suits many cases of crowding, spacing and relapse.
Brackets and wires fixed to the teeth for the whole of treatment. More visible and harder to clean around, but can be more suitable for complex movements that aligners manage less well.
Does not move teeth at all. Resin reshapes the surface of a slightly rotated or short tooth so it looks in line with its neighbours, often in one visit. Suits small irregularities; for real crowding or gaps, aligners first and bonding, if still needed, afterwards.

The Invisalign process
From the first appointment to the retainer that keeps your result, here is what happens, step by step.
Day to day, you take the aligners out to eat and drink anything other than water, brush your teeth, and put them back in. Most people describe pressure rather than pain for a day or two after changing to a new set, and a slight lisp for the first day or two that settles as the tongue adjusts.
Nervous about the dentist? There is no drilling and no injection in Invisalign treatment: the consultation is a conversation and a scan, and the fitting is simply trying the aligners in. You set the pace throughout.

Which option suits you depends on how much movement your teeth need; your dentist confirms the exact cost after your consultation. If you go ahead with treatment, the £40 digital scan fee is deducted from your treatment cost.

Spread the cost of your treatment →The £48 consultation is taken off the cost of your treatment if you go ahead. It is not refunded if you decide not to proceed, or if treatment turns out not to be suitable for you.
Two things: how much your teeth need to move, and whether one arch or both are treated. Go express suits the smallest corrections, Go covers moderate crowding or spacing, and Go plus is for teeth that need to travel further. Treating a single arch costs less than treating both, though many people need both treated so that the top and bottom teeth meet properly at the end.
Your dentist will tell you exactly what your quote includes before you go ahead. Retainers are priced separately because what you need depends on your finished result.

It depends on how much movement your teeth need and how consistently you wear the aligners. Small corrections with Go express take less time than a full course of Go plus. Your dentist will give you an expected timeline at your consultation, before you commit to anything.
At Dentistry @ Jordanhill, Invisalign costs from £1,475 for Go express on a single arch to £3,995 for Go plus on both arches, with a £48 consultation first, which is taken off the cost of treatment if you go ahead. A £40 digital scan, if needed, is credited against your treatment. Vivera retainers are £295 for one arch or £395 for both. The exact cost is confirmed at your consultation.
Invisalign aligners are clear and discreet; most people will not notice unless you choose to tell them. Small tooth-coloured attachments are sometimes bonded to a few teeth to help the aligners grip, and these are hard to see at normal distance.
Most patients describe pressure rather than pain, usually for the first day or two after changing to a new set. That feeling is normal and settles quickly. Tell us if anything feels uncomfortable and we will check it.
You may notice a slight lisp for the first day or two while your tongue adjusts. It usually settles quickly, and reading aloud for a few minutes speeds it up.
It depends on your case. Aligners are removable and discreet and suit many cases; fixed braces can be more suitable for complex movements. We will give you an honest recommendation at your consultation.
Remove your aligners before eating or drinking anything other than water. Eat as normal, then brush your teeth before putting them back in. Hot drinks can warp the plastic and coloured drinks can stain it, which is why water is the only thing to have with them in.
Around 20 to 22 hours per day, removing them for meals, drinks and cleaning. Consistent wear is the single biggest factor in getting the result you want; teeth only move while the aligners are in.
Brush them gently with a soft toothbrush, water and a small amount of toothpaste, then rinse. Brushing your teeth after meals before putting the aligners back in keeps them clear and hygienic.
Often yes, but it depends on the dental work you have. Aligners move teeth individually, so bridgework in particular can limit what is possible. We will assess this carefully at your consultation and explain your options.
Almost always. Teeth can drift back towards their original position after any orthodontic treatment, so a retainer holds your new smile in place. Your dentist will advise what you need and how often to wear it. Vivera retainers are listed in the fees above.
There is no upper age limit for moving teeth. What matters is that your teeth and gums are healthy, which your dentist checks at the consultation and keeps an eye on during treatment. Many adults choose Invisalign because their teeth have moved since they had braces as teenagers, or because they never had them.
Call the practice and tell us which aligner it was. Depending on where you are in the sequence, your dentist may ask you to go back to the previous set or move on to the next one while a replacement is arranged, so the teeth do not drift in the meantime.
Most people whiten at the end of treatment, once the teeth are in their final position and any attachments have been removed, so that the whole surface of each tooth lightens evenly. If you would like whitening as a finishing step, your dentist can plan it alongside your retainers.
